Over the past few weeks we have been singing the song My One Comfort. Before praying, I mentioned that though the song is short, it packs a big scriptural punch.
What is your only comfort in life and death?
That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my Heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.1
Think about this for a moment; that is the hope and comfort that has been won for us by Jesus. It is no mere tabula rasa or clean slate. Jesus offers us unceasing hope and comfort because he has indeed accomplished this.
How do we know that this is true? Because it is laid out clearly in God’s word.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll go through each statement of this catechism question along with the Scriptures that its authors reference. I hope that it is an encouragement to you. In the mean time, check out another song that is based on this question.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Dan
Coming up!
Sunday with Tearfund

This Sunday, we’ll be joined by Robbie Morrison from Tearfund. We look forward to hearing from God’s word and about the work that Tearfund is doing to fight extreme poverty.
Prayer meeting
We’ll be continuing our study on The Lord’s Prayer on Tuesday evening as we “gather” to pray together on Zoom. Email Pastor Dan for the Zoom link.

Baptism Sunday, 25 May
It’s very exciting to announce that we will be holding a baptism service for All Together Sunday this month! In advance of that, there will be a short information meeting following worship on Sunday 18th. In the meantime, be praying for those who will be baptised, that the Lord would sustain their faith and cause them to continue to grow in grace and godliness.
Stage N Slam
YoungLife Greenock will be hosting Stage N Slam again at the Mount Kirk from June 24-27. This a great event, one which has led to more than one profession of faith. There are two ways that we can serve as a church:
Feeding the team
As a church, we provided a meal for the team last year and have been asked to do the same this year. We will be serving on Friday 27 June. Please speak with Janice or Pastor Dan to let us know if you can help.
Hosting the team
The team are also looking for host homes to provide a place for members of the team to stay while they are in Scotland. Hosts are asked to provide accommodation for 2 or more of the visiting team, preferably in beds so that the team are properly rested each night. The team are expected to arrive on Sunday 22 June 2025 and depart on Sunday 29 June. These dates will be confirmed nearer the time. If you would like to serve the team in this way, please get in touch with Pastor Dan for more information.
