Every church has a liturgy, even ours.
Liturgy isn’t merely a pre-written, recited prayer. It’s the very form or formula that shapes a church’s practice of worship. Some forms are just more… formal than others.
At Ardgowan, during our regular gatherings (All Together Sundays are a bit different), our worship is shaped by God’s word. We try to pack as much Bible into our services as possible because we really do believe that it is God’s word for us today. We also shape our worship according to God’s word because we believe that he has given it to us to instruct us in how we relate to him.
Our liturgy is based off of Isaiah 6 (read it here) and it’s made up of the following parts:
- Revelation
- Adoration
- Confession
- Expiation
- Proclamation
- Dedication
- Commission
Over the coming weeks, we’ll look at each element to see how it fits into our time of worship and what each of the words means.
