Discipleship Explored

Before he ascended, Jesus offered these words to the apostles:

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:16-20)

This is often called the Great Commission and what we see throughout the New Testament is that the apostles work really hard to see that this is fulfilled. They are so intent on doing as the Lord Jesus instructed them that they are willing to face imprisonment and death for the sake of the gospel.

If you belong to Jesus today, you are the recipient of a gift that cannot be valued highly enough.

But this gift is not something that is meant to end with our conversion. We aren’t simply saved from hell, we are saved for life in God’s kingdom, together as citizens of the New Creation. This is what we preach week in and week out.

And starting on the 26th April, we will be taking a much closer look at what following Jesus together looks like.

Through Discipleship Explored, we will be studying the book of Philippians and answering questions like:

  • How can I be confident that I really am a follower of Jesus?
  • If God forgives all my sin, why does it matter how I live?
  • What should we remember if we’re in conflict with another believer?

This is a great opportunity to look at the practicalities of being a follower of Jesus and what being the church is all about.
