On Sunday, we recited the Apostle’s Creed together. Inspired by this, it seems good for us to take a few weeks to be reminded of what we believe so that we know how to discern what is false when we come across it.
I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
To be a Christian is to believe that God is real, mighty, and the Creator. In our pluralistic society where everyone’s beliefs are held up as equally valid, even when they contradict, this is not something which we can take for granted.
There are people who say they worship multiple gods (polytheists). There are people who say that there is more than one god but only one of them is supreme over the others (henotheists). For us, we believe that both of these options are false.
We believe there is only one God, the Father, who made all that we can and cannot see.
We believe that he is self-existent, which means that he does not depend on anything outside of himself to have his being. He has life in himself. He is the “being than which none greater can be conceived.” But most remarkably, we believe and confess that our God is personal and involved in his creation. By the life and work of his Son, he is our Father (Galatians 4:4-7). He makes himself known through his creation (Romans 1:19-20).
May you rejoice in his love (John 3:16), marvel at his creation (Psalm 19:1-6), and be revived by his words (Psalm 19:7-11).
Sermon Catchup
Many in our church family have been traveling or unwell recently. If you’d like to catch up on our sermon series, you can follow along on the sermon page on our website or watch the full video recordings of our sermons on Youtube.
Tuesday Night Prayer – 7:30pm
We’ve been working through the Sermon On The Mount during our weekly prayer meeting. We’d love for you to join us as we spend time looking at God’s word, praying together, and be still and know that God is God.
AGM
For church members, we will be holding our AGM on Tuesday, 2 June at 7:30pm. These meetings are always an encouraging time for looking back at the previous year of ministry, looking ahead, and praying for God to bless the work that we hope to do here in Greenock. It’s very important that our members make every effort to be in attendance as we must have no less than 50% of our membership in attendance.
