All things must work together for my salvation

Question 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism is all about comfort. Each sentence builds on and expands the previous one.

So far, we have seen that Jesus has bought us by his own blood. We have learned that our sin is fully paid for and so we are now free. When it seems like there could be nothing better than this, the answer continues:

He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation.

Or to use Jesus’ own words:

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:27–30 ESV)

As you go through your week, may you go knowing that, if you belong to Christ, nothing can snatch you away from him. Jesus cannot lose one of his own, those who believe in him are united to him forever.

Coming Up

AGM – 17 June, 7:30pm

There will be time reflecting on the previous year and all that God has done. We will also be discussing significant matters regarding the future ministry of Ardgowan. Our constitution requires a certain percentage of the membership role to be present in order to hold the meeting. Because of this, it is imperative that all members make every effort to be in attendance at this meeting.

Prayer Meeting

Along with continuing our study of The Lord’s Prayer, we will bring the work of the church and the needs of those who are a part of it before the Lord. We meet each Tuesday on Zoom at 7:30.
